About GATE
GATE is a national examination for admission to M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D. programs at IITs, NITs, and other premier institutions. GATE scores are also used by PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) like ONGC, BHEL, NTPC, IOCL for recruitment. GATE is offered in 29 subject papers and requires in-depth knowledge of the chosen engineering or science discipline.
Eligibility Criteria
• B.E./B.Tech/B.Pharm/B.Arch or equivalent in any discipline. • Final year students of qualifying degree can also appear. • MSc/MA/MCA or equivalent degree holders. • No age limit. • GATE score is valid for 3 years.
Exam Pattern
• Total Marks: 100 • Questions: 65 (10 GA + 55 subject-specific) • Question Types: MCQ + MSQ (Multiple Select) + NAT (Numerical) • Negative marking only for MCQs: -1/3 for 1-mark, -2/3 for 2-mark • Duration: 3 hours
Syllabus
Varies by paper. Common to all papers: • General Aptitude (15 marks): Verbal Ability, Numerical Ability • Engineering Mathematics (15 marks): Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability • Subject-specific topics (70 marks): Based on chosen paper (CS, ECE, ME, CE, EE, etc.)
